Where do you start?

Spotted Valley Appaloosa horse club is the perfect place to start, if you are looking to get into the show pen this season.  We host plenty of beginner friendly show series that are even dual approved, and open to ALL BREED HORSES, with of course ApHC registered horses. Our club boasts a wonderful line up of trainers who range all over the southern California area specializing in multiple disciplines, and levels of competition. from sending your horse out to full time training, to getting weekly lessons- someone is always ready to help!

The Appaloosa is a vast breed with various diciplines, meaning at our shows there is literally a class for everyone. What exhibitors can look forward to multiple youth divisions, Non-pro, 50 & over, Novice and of course Open. including walk/trot/canter and walk trot in both the youth and Non-pro divisions.

What to wear

for a lot of people, figuring out what to wear is a major factor- well you are not alone! what I always suggest is do your homework and look at what is the current trend, but ALWAYS know Crisp, clean well fitted clothing, boots and hats are ALWAYS in style.  a safe bet is to pick up a well fitted port authority button up .  make sure your hat is freshly shaped, and polish up your boots.  Higher waist starched jeans will always make a better appearance both in hand, and up in the saddle, and don't forget your belt!

As for your horse, clean, well fitted tack is #1, color coordinating saddle pads and show tops is always pleasant.

Showing up

always be aware of when a show starts, and give yourself plenty of time to arrive, get situated, sign up, warm up your horse, and of course get them ready for competition. If I am showing in halter in the AM, I will arrive almost 2 hours prior to the first class starting.  always be ready for competition a couple classes before your own so that you are not rushed to your class.  Make sure that you do all of your homework at home, and can use the show as an opportunity to high light all of the hard work you have done at home. a great thing to do to get an idea about the competition is to watch youtube videos of people competing in your class. if you are nervous, once again, prior to your first show look for a training barn. Not only do training barns help you prepare at home for a show, many trainers will make sure that your first time showing goes as smoothly as possible.
